The “bird’s eye view” of financial freedom

The “bird’s eye view” of financial freedom

When we talk about financial freedom and I’m asked how to get there. I always think directly of the “bird’s eye view”. It’s a concept I created myself to explain what knowledge you need to acquire to really understand how the world works. And by understanding how the world works, I mean the economy, politics, business, negotiations, the education system. And generally everything that has to do with power and money in the world.

An example of a bird’s eye view

The “first-person perspective”

The example consists of a city where many people live and work, and each of these people has their life and their view, i.e. a “first person perspective” or “first person” vision. This perspective is the one that every person in the world has, because we take in what happens to us and what we live. That’s a good thing, but if we only have this single view, we can’t see what’s happening at the end of the city, or even how the city works. If I’m a baker in this city and I only ever move around my neighborhood and go from home to work, I can’t know where the grain is grown or even how it’s grown. That sounds logical, but could I expand my knowledge? Yes, by informing myself about the cultivation of cereals, for example, and thus accumulating more and more knowledge.

The “bird’s eye view”

After some time, I would have acquired a lot of knowledge and could understand much more about what is happening around me. The next step is to put all this information together and try to understand the connections. This allows me to understand not only the individual elements, but also how these elements work together. The last and most difficult step is to move from this knowledge to an understanding of how the whole system works. This means that I have to see the whole system at a glance. But one person could never do that, even from the highest tower, could they? That’s right. But a bird can. Imagine you were flying over this city like a bird from very, very high up, and you also know how every person works, thinks and acts. You also know which house is used for living and in which buns are baked. You know where someone is looking for workers and which store closed last week.

If you simplify all this information and put it into a picture, that’s the bird’s eye view.

Strategically achieving financial freedom

Strategically, the people who manage to achieve a global picture and understanding of how a city, a country or the world works, these people have a huge advantage over the rest of the population. Take the example I just gave, the images I have chosen are from two video games (medieval themed) and specifically the second one is Age Of Empires. This video game is based on strategy and the aim is to win against the other players. Now imagine you are playing against someone who has the view of the situation from the second picture (everything perfectly in view), and you also have a city with a castle and warriors, but only the view from the first picture where you can only see what is happening around you (only what is happening in your immediate surroundings). Which of you has more chance of winning?
